Jessie Lane is the best-selling author of The Star Series, Big Bad Bite Series and the Ex Ops Series.
The Jessie Lane pen name was previously the writing duo of sisters-in-law Crystal and Melissa.
M.L. Pahl (Melissa) has departed from the Jessie Lane pen name after writing her one and only book, The Frozen Star, to pursue other things. She will be sorely missed, but I know she has an amazing future ahead of her. You can follow M.L. Pahl at: Facebook and Twitter
You can also check out her Facebook page that she shares with her older brother Matthew Leo for their upcoming book, Zombies Don’t Ride Motorcycles, HERE.

Crystal will be staying on to write under the Jessie Lane name. She lives in Kentucky with her two little Rock Chicks in the making and her over protective alpha husband. She has a passionate love for reading and writing naughty romance, cliff hanging suspense, and out-of-this-world characters that demand your attention, or threaten to slap you around until you do pay attention to them.

You can follow Jessie Lane at: Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Goodreads & her Amazon Author Page

Jessie writes Upper YA Fantasy/Paranormal Romance & Adult Paranormal and Contemporary Romance. She’s currently working on her next two novels, The Demon Who Loved Me (Big Bad Bite Series #3) and Stripping Her Defenses (Ex Ops Series #2).

Maybe this is a goodbye. Maybe it's a nervous breakdown. Maybe it's global warming.

Sitting here drinking a blue gatorade and listening to All American Rejects.
I hate that I lack the ability to feel more positive about my writing journey, I hate that I feel down once a month about all the things that I am doing wrong. I don't know, it's defeating to do stuff and feel like it doesn't get you anywhere.
Do I want something big to happen? Am I just doing this for fun? What do I want? *shakes head* I don't know and that's what is making me crazy.
I know I enjoy writing, but now I feel like the enjoyment gets sucked out of it when I doubt myself.
I doubt myself for stupid reasons and for valid ones.
It makes me crazy. A little sad and a bit agitated.
And now I am sitting here forcing myself to imagine what life would be like if I just stopped writing altogether....
*sigh* Maybe this is the sign that the fun has been sucked out of it. If I can't even figure out why I feel that way or what to do about it maybe I need to step away.

I'm a big tease!

Ink 4 is going smoothly and I forsee it coming soon if I keep up my momentum. I can't precisely what date yet but a lot sooner than I envisioned. So, I know a lot of you are anxiously waiting. I offer you a few teases into book 4. (raw and unedited**) Enjoy!

Someone wraps on the door. I cover the phone before I lash out. “Can’t a girl have a few minutes alone?”

“You’ve had your minutes. Now get the fuck out here,” Kenny says.
I roll my eyes and unlock the door. “I have to go. The psycho has summoned me.”
Karsen sighs. “Tell him Cherry still hates him and that if he does anything to my friend I will be sure my boyfriend despines him.”

Kenny rolls his eyes. “Tell blondie she wishes her boyfriend had the balls to even consider it.”
I don’t humor him, instead I just hit end on my phone and plop down on his sleazy leather sectional next to Slade.
“This place is disgusting,” I point out looking around at all the take out boxes and empty beer cans. He sure lived the bachelor lifestyle.

“That’s one of the perks of living alone,” he says. “I can do whatever the fuck I want.”

And another!

I am beginning to hate this bar.
But watching the pretty blonde go about her business cleaning and serving customers puts me back into my right mind. It reminds me why I am here.
Slade’s finger circles the mouth of his beer as he studies her. “What do you think it takes to have the ability to bring back the dead?” he asks. “Do you think she’s a witch?”
I drop my chin to my palm. “I don’t even know. I don’t even know what the deal is with Kenny. Who can kill people just by touching them?”

Is it real?-- Book boyfriends

So, recently I have been thinking about books, and about what makes me want to read them. I admit I am a huge book snob. I can only read a book if it has one of three things.

1. A bizarre, shocking, romantic or quick paced story line.
2. A steamy relationship with a ton of dysfunction.
3. Not a ton of details and humor.

And then I ask myself what do these three things have in common? And that's when I come up with the idea that it is the characters.

So now, I say, do we believe in book boyfriends? Is there someone in a story that just makes you swoon? I think we all have this. I read Becca Fitzpatrick's work and just loved Patch. I found myself smiling like a little schoolgirl, totally smitten.

I think the problem with book boyfriends, we as the reader develop a violent connection and we have these emotions that explode at the drop of a dime. We get extra sensitive about the circumstances in the stories, we feel, we cry, we freakin love them.

I think that is the fun of reading any book. You want to read about this creation and enjoy them so much that your world is shattered if any harm comes to them. You want to feel for them, even if they are the smutty bad boy or the arrogant jock, slobberin werewolf, snobby vampire, you get my drift.

I love writing books and hearing about my characters in a review. I love creating a character so stunning that somebody develops a fictitious crush on them. I love the joy of reading a good book.

Meet the author Monday: Lindy Spencer

Monday has now been changed and dedicated to authors. I being one myself know how great fellow authors are, and it's always nice to share the love. So, I would like to welcome the author, Lindy Spencer to my blog.

Meet the author

Hello, Lindy Spencer here - newly published indie writer with a hyper-busy life!  Between working full-time and taking care of a husband and the dog, I juggle spending time with the kids, grandkids, photography, and writing another book.  Love to spend time in the kitchen - cooking as well as baking - and can't wait until the grands are big enough to assist me.  That will be so much fun!

For years my main focus was family.  When the kids grew up and moved out of the house, it became much quieter around here.  I found there was more time than I knew what to do with, and an idle mind is the perfect playground for a budding writer.  My first novel, The Boomerang Effect, built an entire town as well as the characters in it - some of which left their lives a bit earlier than they'd planned, but hey, that's how a good murder mystery goes, never know who will be standing when the last page flips!
I love to toss photography into the mix every chance I get.  Shooting people in my writing as well as with a Canon gives me plenty of satisfaction.  Photography has been a hobby of mine as long as I can remember.  I carry a camera with me wherever I go; never know when I'm going to run across an old farmhouse that would make a great location for a tense scene, or an old bridge that cries out for a noose on a long rope to be swinging from it.  Murder on the mind all the time, great props are easier to remember if you shoot a picture of them!

Speaking of photography, I've recently concluded another exciting event in my life.  My very first photography exhibit, titled "Oklahoma's Rusted Route 66", was recently on display at the Historic Route 66 Museum in Clinton, Oklahoma.  I have enjoyed riding my motorcycle up and down the historic route for a long time, finding different scenes to memorialize in pictures each time I do, and am honored to have been chosen to be the first photographer to have their work showcased in the newly remodeled museum.

Currently I am working on my second and third novels, with a couple more ideas circling the brain - I don't know whether its an addiction or if I've finally gone around the bend (my husband believes its the latter) but writing gives me an outlet that is totally mine.  Well, mine until it hits the shelves, then its anybody's story!!

1. Tell me a bit about yourself.  About me... the hardest of topics to write about!  I work a full-time job, have a small photography business on the side, take care of my husband and the dog, and I juggle spending time with the kids, grandkids, photography, and writing another book.  Love to spend time in the kitchen - cooking as well as baking - and can't wait until the grands are big enough to assist me.  That will be so much fun!

2. When did you first consider yourself a writer?  When I clicked the button to publish.  I didn't really believe it until then... and it was still kind of a dream until the first sale happened.  I guess that would be when I realized I really was a writer.

3. What inspired you to write your first book?  I read a quote by a favorite author that went something like this: 'If you think of a story you'd like to read and it hasn't been written yet, you are charged with writing it.'  I took that as a challenge and stepped up to the plate when I had my idea for The Boomerang Effect.  I can't say I'm unhappy about it, either!

4. What books have influenced your life most?  Oh, goodness.  That's a good question.  I'm mostly a fiction reader unless its for research, so I don't think there's been a book that influenced my life... entertained, yes.  Influenced, I can't think of one.

5. If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?  The first writer that comes to mind is J.D. Robb, Nora Roberts' alter ego.  Her writing style flows well and has given me stylistic pointers when I get stuck.  I am a fan of her writing.

6. What book are you reading now?  In Too Deep by Brandy L. Rivers.  I'm really enjoying it and recommend it to anyone who enjoys non-typical vampire/ werewolf stories.

7. What do you like to do when you’re not writing?  Photography is another love of mine.  When I'm not writing, I prefer to have a camera in my hand.  It's turned into a side business as well.

8. Where do you get your ideas for your books?  Everywhere.  I'm constantly twisting things I see in my everyday life into murder and mayhem.

9. What new author has grasped your interest?  Brandy L. Rivers makes the top of the list here, as well!  I recently discovered her and have quickly turned into a fan!  Check out her writing style, she makes the story flow and its so easy to read!

10. If you couldn’t be an author, what would your ideal career be?  Great question!  I've always wanted to work with dolphins... that won't happen, of course, as I live in Oklahoma and we're a bit too landlocked for that career choice, but in a perfect world that's where you would find me.

11. What was your favorite chapter to write and why?  The epilogue, absolutely.  I loved bringing the reader to where I was - leaving some questions unanswered and introducing a new situation... right before closing it down.  I can't stop thinking about what happened, and what's going to happen, and I like to think the readers are right there with me!
12. Why do you feel you had to tell this story?  I wanted to read it.  Reading a story you feel compelled to read is much more difficult if it hasn't been written yet.

13. Can you tell us about your upcoming book?  The book I'm currently working on is the sequel to The Boomerang Effect.  I've been bombarded with requests to write it, and if we've learned anything about Lindy, it's that she accepts the challenge!!  I'm currently working on it whenever I have free time, which isn't as often as I would like, but I do expect my fans will be as happy with the story as I am, as it is unfolding itself to me.

14. How do you market your book(s)?  Every way I can think of... I currently have a small shelf in a corner drug store, I have a Facebook page for my fans to visit, and I talk it up to strangers in the checkout line at the store.  I've even waited in a restaurant until a customer I'd never met, who was reading, looked up from her book and I took that opportunity to approach her and ask if she read murder mysteries.  She did, so I gave her a bookmark advertising mine.  Marketing is all about networking and getting your name out there.

15. Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?  The best piece of advice I was given as an aspiring author was DON'T QUIT.  When you think you have reached a block that you can't overcome, push through or set that portion aside for awhile and work on something else.  Your brain will sort it out.  Whatever you do, don't quit!!

“Witches,” Nona said.  For the hundredth time since the bars of the jail opened and I was allowed to walk free.
“Witches?” Dad asked me. I climbed into the backseat of Claude’s car.
“Is there anything anyone else wants to say besides that word?” I asked.
Nona buckled her seatbelt. “I just don’t understand the accusations.” She was just as confused about the situation.
“I think if my daughter was stabbed last summer I would have known about it,” Dad shook his head.
I rubbed my temples in a slow circular motion. My head ached beyond anything I felt before in my life.
Everyone wanted answers. They also wanted the truth. But the truth was they wouldn’t believe anything I had to say about witches.
I stared out the window at all the picketers surrounding the jailhouse. Everyone was holding a sign that showcased the hatred for witches. Cherry was a full on battleground after Audrey tried to kill Tucker.
Once Tucker escaped and told everyone everything went from bad to worse. There was no escaping before they cuffed us and threw us in jail on ridiculous charges.
I looked at Nona, thankful she was rich and could get me out of jail. I didn’t know the first thing about surviving in such a place.
Claude was the only one being silent as we coasted down the main road back to my house. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. I didn’t know what I would say.
“Do you think it’s a good idea to be taking her back to the beach house?” Claude asked. It was one of the first times I seen him say just about anything.
Dad sighed. “I think I can handle things. I will not let anyone lay a finger on my daughter.”
“Look what has happened so far, I don’t think you’ll have much of a choice,” Nona tossed in. She pulled down her visor and dropped her head back.
“Mom this is my daughter. I think I know what’s best for her,” Dad snapped.
I groaned. “You guys, calm down. We haven’t even made it home yet and you’re all freaking out. I’m an adult; I will choose what I want to do.” My fingers grazed my temples again.
But from the looks of my dad and grandmother I knew it was going to be hard to do.....

Enjoy!! Comment the blog to share your thoughts of Ink 3!

Take a peek!

Forever and Never

I stood at the back door, waiting for my dad to finish up.  I gripped the dish rag, my fingers damp, my hair lazily spilled in front of my eyes making everything in front of me  hazy, out of place, like everything else in life.
Hunter kept driving his remote control car across the uneven porch. Its incessant buzz made it almost impossible to overhear what the newest town nightmare was. However, I knew it was something. Dad was only working when someone was dead.
“Hunter, stop it. I’m trying to hear.” I hissed, not taking my eyes off of Dad or the local sheriff from our small town. Hunter, my ten-year-old brother ignored me, like he always did, and ran his car right over my bare toes.
He grinned, pleased with his torture. “You don’t need to hear about dead bodies.”
I rolled my eyes. What did he know?
As his car flew back around I gave it a swift kick sending it flying out of the open door and into the bushes. I smiled, pleased.
Headlights materialized on the kitchen wall, signaling it was time for Hunter to go. We shared the same dad. His mother, Wendy, only allowed Dad to see him on Wednesdays.
I lifted his duffel bag I packed for him and handed it over, running a hand over his messy brown hair. “See you later, punk.”
“See you later,” Hunter said, slugging me in the arm before he ran out the front door.....

Hope everyone enjoyed a peek at the new book. I think I will post a little more next week. I am looking forward to sharing this series with everyone in December! Feel free to let me know your thoughts.

Trayvon Martin

I usually do not jump into big news stories like this. But this has disturbed me. On my Facebook someone posted a youtube 911 call about this boy. And it was heartbreaking. If anyone is sensitive to this kind of stuff then don't click on the link, but if you want to get a glimpse at what kind of senseless things happen in the world then do so.

He was a kid, someone's son. And from what I understand a man shot him because he was walking in a neighborhood. They said he had no weapons, just skittles and a drink. And that the man called and reported him to the police. Here is one of the articles.

The part that breaks my heart is the fact you can hear this boy on the 911 call screaming "No" and "Help" time and time again. The woman on the phone its obvious is scared to death to do anything more then call 911 to help him. But sadly that was to late and he was shot and killed.
I can't imagine, I can't even form words to get my point across of how horrible it is.

I guess what I just want to say is my prayers are with Trayvon Martin's family because nobody deserves to lose a loved one. Especially if they have done nothing wrong and for something so senseless.

This man who shot him could have allowed the police to do their job and this kid would still be alive. And now a mother and family is without him.

I don't know why this Zimmerman felt it right to shoot a kid, they say he said self defense, but listening to that 911 call I think that is just a lie and seeing this is my blog I will just say I think Zimmerman is a monster. And anyone who doesn't agree with me, that's okay. Maybe you should listen to this 911 call and try to make another excuse on why this kid deserved to be shot. Or maybe you should put yourself in the shoes of the family and victim. Because all I feel right now is sadness.

Its obvious I did not say one thing about race here. And that's simple, I wouldn't care more or less because of the color of this kids skin. I care because he was a kid, a person, a human. And the other person was wrong for doing what he did.

Ellen Degeneres always tells us to be kind to one another, but it doesn't seem many people in the world are doing such a simple thing.

And lastly if you want to make a change. You can go to Change.org and sign the petition to help this family. And get some justice for Trayvon Martin.
